Day 8

Literacy: Alphabet Order Game
Objectives Materials Method
Learning the letters in order A set of alphabet cards or foam or plastic letters
Place the letters in a large pile.

Sing the alphabet song with them and ask them what the first letter is. If they struggle, try giving hints (such as showing them the alphabet in a book)

Once they have located the A, sing the alphabet song together again. (You may do this while pointing to the letters in a book which has the alphabet.)

Ask them what comes after A. You may need to give a similar hint again.

Have them locate the B and place it next to the A.

Repeat until you have gone through the alphabet or your child is bored.
Math: Number Dots
Objectives Materials Method
Associate the number of dots with the numeral
Five 2x5 cards
Sharpie
Scissors
On the left hand side of all the 2x5 cards write the numbers 1 to 5 so that each card has a number. Make the number large enough to fill that side of the card.

On the other side of the 2x5 cards, draw dots. One dot on the card that says 1. Two dots on the card that says 2, and so on.

Cut the cards in half. Cut in a zig-zag line or a along a curvy line to make it more interesting and make them seem like puzzle pieces.

Lay the cards out and help your child match which go together. Count the number of dots and help them find the corresponding number.
Fine Motor Development: Whisking
Objectives Materials Method
Development of hand-eye coordination Bowl
Whisk
Bottle containing dish-washing detergent
Pitcher of water
Help your child place water and dish-washing detergent in the bowl.

Show your child how to whisk the liquid.

Have them try and encourage them to keep at it until it becomes frothy.
Music: Bongo Shaker
Objectives Materials Method
Learning rhythm Empty, clean metal cans
Rice or lentils
Balloons
Rubber bands
Sticks/Wooden dowels
Put a handful of rice/lentils into a metal can. (Make sure there are no sharp edges.)

Cut the end of the balloon (where the opening is) and stretch it over the tin can.

Secure the balloon with an elastic band.

This can then be used as a shaker or bongo drums
Physical Education: Dino Feet
Objectives Materials Method
Coordination of Movement
Two tissue boxes
Green paint
White paper
Help your child to paint the tissue boxes green.

From the white paper cut three ovals. Cut the ovals in half.

Once the paint is dry, glue the half ovals onto the front of the tissue boxes as toes.

Have your child place their feet into the tissue boxes and walk around making dinosaur noises.
