- Don't expect too much - Sometimes I have it in my mind that we will do activities x, y, and z or that a particular activity will be perfect, but it doesn't always go according to plan. So I try not to get upset when things don't work out as I thought they might.
- Be flexible - Often my twin toddlers don't want to do a particular activity and so I find it is better if I am flexible. I am aiming for a child-led experience with them. I know that they will be more likely learn something if they find an activity engaging rather than if I am forcing them to do something that doesn't interest them. I sometimes find they may want to do it another time.
- Be patient - This experience is providing me with a lot of opportunities to learn patience. It's really a growing experience for me.
- Relax and have fun with the process - I find that if I am enjoying my time helping my twins learn, they are more relaxed and enjoy the experience as well. They are more likely to want to learn than if I am stressed out and not enjoying it.
- Work around younger children - I have a young infant who has needs too and so I schedule my twins' learning time around his nap time. If that doesn't work, I have a basket of toys which he can play with while I work with my toddlers.
